About Me

Hey! I’m Studio Myxed: An Indo-Guyanese and Brazilian artist working towards racial diversity in the media. I'm inspired by painters, illustrators, designers, and makers. I use subtle bends and twists in the figure to express larger, more complex ideas.

My work is chatty, loud, almost musical. There’s always an inexplicable appearance of sound, whether it’s intentional or not. I tend to think… a lot. My brain runs much faster than I can keep up with, and it shows in my work. Concepts begin simply, but as more and more thought is brought into it, I step back, and it becomes audibly loud. My work talks to itself, in ways I’m not sure even I can understand.

I always thought my excessive thinking meant my work would be clean, precise, and neat. Surely plenty of thought meant that it would have an exact final stage, exactly as I imagined in the beginning. As I begin to find myself, I realize this is not the case. My work is collective, expressive, and expansive. It shows the inner workings of my mind and how it’s full of overlapping sounds and voices. As I near closer and closer to my own voice, I’ve found that this “voice” may be plural.

Everything about me is cumulative. I work in a space filled with materials, all at arm’s reach so I can suddenly switch to another medium. I collect trash, scraps, junk, anything, and everything that interests me. I use every color that I can touch, convincing myself that it will work in the end. Even when I’m not creating, my desk is filled with different activities, drinks, pens, and pencils. I can never choose, so I choose all.

My goals within my artwork are to create racial representation in the media. I want others to see themselves in my work and feel heard, not just listened to. Whether it be editorial work, gallery shows, or magazine covers, my main goal is to create work that represents all, not just a handful.
